Who says vegan food is boring or bland? Not Gambardeli’s customers!

Romantic dinner or weekly treat?

Why not treat yourself more often to a quick delicious meal Gambardeli’s steak and sides?  We think of this dinner more at certain times of the year such as Valentine’s Day but we could treat ourselves more often – after all we’ve earned it!

Most importantly, Gambardeli’s steaks are quick to cook, nutritious and delicious.  They take just a few minutes to grill on each side to make that great caramelised bark.  For a super fast easy meal you can prepare a fresh salad whilst the steaks are on the grill making this a super fast meal with less effort than collecting a take away?

Margaret says

Gambardeli’s steaks can be sprayed with a little vegetable oil of your choosing before grilling.  However, if you wish to avoid oil then you can place them straight onto the grill.  We like to sprinkle a little spice on them before grilling such as smoked paprika for a Mexican style meal with wraps and grilled peppers or cumin with a vegetable curry with chapatis or rice.

Here is my recipe for a special restaurant quality steak made in minutes. This method is based on a restaurant tip for making steaks super tasty and I’ve used it here with the vegan steaks!

The sides of potato chips probably take the longest to cook so put them on to cook first following the instructions on the packet or your usual method of cooking.

Ingredients for 2 people

1 pack of Gambardeli’s steaks

1 red onion cut into rings

1 large tomato cut in half across

Salad leaves

Pomegranate seeds for decoration

Marinade
  • 1 Tbs red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbs vegetable oil – if using
  • 1 clove of garlic crushed
  • pinch of salt and black pepper
  • 1/2 red chilli finely chopped – optional
  • Sprig of rosemary or thyme
Instructions
Firstly remove your steaks from the pack.

Next on a chopping board first chop and mix together the ingredients for the marinade.  Then coat both sides of both steaks and leave to marinade for a few minutes whilst you prepare the receiving bath for the steak once it has cooked. Heat your grill.

Receiving Bath for cooked steaks
  • 1 Tbs olive oil – optional
  • 1Tbs Balsamic vinegar
  • Pinch of salt and black pepper
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Few leaves of fresh thyme
  •  Tbs olive oil if using – optional

Meanwhile make the receiving bath for the steaks when cooked.

Firstly on a different part of the chopping board, chop these ingredients together and mix. Then reserve.

Cooking the steaks

Firstly place the marinated steaks, onion rings and tomato halves on the heated grill.

Meanwhile, prepare the salad and any other side dishes.

Next turn the steaks after about 3 minutes and grill on the other side until they are heated through.

When the chips are ready and the steaks have heated through is the time to remove the steaks from the grill and place onto the receiving bath. Turn to coat both sides.

Finally prepare you platter or plates ready to receive the steaks. You can serve the steaks whole or cut into strips.

Decorate with the pomegranate seeds and slices of the fresh red chilli.

Enjoy!

Make it your own

This is a basic recipe.  You can make it your own by using different flavoured vinegars and herbs.  If you don’t like chilli then leave it out.

The formula for the marinade and receiving bath is similar

oil – optional

vinegar or lemon or lime juice

Salt and pepper

Herbs of your choice

Garlic

Chilli

For example, I don’t use garlic in the receiving bath as I’m not keen on the taste of raw garlic but you can use it if you like it.

The main thing here is to create this fabulous meal quickly and with little effort.
